The time marches steadily towards the beginning of March when I will begin my planned Thru Attempt, I have all of my gear now and have been meaning to do a break down for both Going Big and Appalachian Trials, but my schedule is pretty packed (pun not intended....or was it). Despite this I am trying to keep the trail in mind as I move forward.
This being said so far I have played two rugby games and left with leg injuries from both, hopefully that trend will not continue and I'll be able to get through the rest of the season with no more threats to my hike. I have also successfully scored the time off from my military unit to be able to hike, I just need to fill out the paperwork. They are going to let me reschedule them before I leave as well so I will have a bit more spending money in my pocket as I board the plane, train, or bus that will take me down to Georgia
I have also got my History Degree capstone project signed off on by my adviser, this semester I will be writing about the growth of the Appalachian Trail, post-WWII. I already have quite a few sources and will also be making a trip to the AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club) Office in Boston to utilize their archive for the paper. Once it is complete I will host it here, for those of you out there that enjoy dry history papers.
Hopefully in the next couple weeks I'll be able to get at least some kind of training hike in before winter really comes crashing down here in the Northeast. I keep placing hikes on my calendar, and then things always seem to come up, though I guess in a couple months I won't have to be worried about my hiking plans getting interrupted.
Just wanted to post another update as traffic on the site has been going up lately and I want to let everyone know I'm still in it, just trying to juggle my last semester at school is making getting out there and crushing some prep hikes a bit difficult. Be on the lookout for that gear breakdown...I swear it's coming.
